Moonlight Mile Mission 21: "Golden Autumn of Russia: The First Volume"

Que the epic Moonlight Mile theme music! You know what time it is! Another arc has begun, once again continuing our trend of following Gorou and Jack's story through the POV of other characters. Elizabeta, the head of Russia's space department. This kind of adds a bit of retroactive depth to the sixth chapter, where we followed Gorou heading to the ISS aboard a Russian space shuttle. I hope you enjoy the next major part of this sci-fi epic.

Ohtagaki also retweeted a post I made about the manga. I don't know if I should accept that as support for the scanlation or not, but we've officially been acknowledged by him for the second time.

Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation: Code Fairy chapters 1-18 (translated and edited by Kyosuke Asatte)

This is the manga adaptation of the video game of the same name. The game that infamously was a flop, which doomed it to languish as an overpriced PS4/PS5 exclusive until the end of time.

This was a translation I actively followed for archival purposes, which put me on the radar of the translator: Kyosuke Asatte, back when the Mangadex massacre happened. They were an unfortunate victim in the whole case, as this manga was not owned or distributed by any of the parties who initiated the mass take downs. A year later, for whatever reason, they have asked if they could distribute on our website. I assume they followed Ecole du Ciel and liked our setup. Anyways, we are happy to bring you Code Fairy, translated and edited by Kyosuke Asatte and presented by Moon Moon Scans. With a couple minor fixes and edits we've made to it ourselves.

We are not going to just release other people's chapters on our website as a regular thing. We are making a special case for a member of the Gundam community who needs the help. Now, with the preamble out of the way, here's a word from Kyosuke Asatte himself.

"Code Fairy is a rather special Gundam story.

It's a bright spot in the One Year War, and, fundamentally, it shouldn't work.

It's a story about a secret squad of high-school aged girls piloting giant robots during a major war. They live in a big fancy mansion in the forest, and work for the Principality of Zeon. They fight a giant robot that can go invisible somehow.  It is, as I've heard it said, 'Kawaii-vering up their war crimes'. By all means, this sounds absolutely bonkers. There is no way this story could or should work in a setting such as the One Year War.

And yet, it does work! It features an interesting and entertaining cast of characters who just work together so well! Its protagonist may or may not literally only have ADHD as her main superpower rather than being a Newtype! It's a story about found family in the most unlikely of situations! It features a Dom with a comically oversized cannon blowing stuff up, and they fight a giant robot that can go invisible somehow! And it was incredibly fun! There was a lighthearted atmosphere throughout all the story, even as the situations grew more and more dire and the foregone fall of Zeon grew ever closer.

Unfortunately, Code Fairy was ALSO a financial flop. The game didn't do as well as hoped. Because of this, they never ported it anywhere outside the PS4, despite GBO2 being put on Steam. The only model kits created were Helena's Efreet Jaeger, and the Black and White Riders - but let's face it, they were going to make the Riders with or without Code Fairy existing, weren't they?

So that means technically, the only legacy this whole side story would leave behind as time went on would be hearsay, a single model kit that wasn't even of the main protagonist, and maybe some footnotes in the Pale Rider family history.

I didn't want that to be its only legacy. Code Fairy is fun! It is silly! It has things to say! It provides an incredible, hilarious contrast and rebuttal to Requiem For Vengeance's ending! It absolutely deserves to be more than a footnote on the Black and White Rider's lore!

So I did what I could, with what I had. This is something I have to complete.

With this, I can now announce this project's Rise From The Ashes! This Lost War Chronicle will continue on to the Space To The End Of A Flash, a shining Rebellion against the Aggressor that is the hardships of life! Suit up, because we've got a major Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation NEXT! So that this tale is not left to become Eternal in an incomplete state, so that future G Generations can read about the goofy Zaku goobers...

This is SHADOW WIZARD FAIRY GANG: DAS FINALE!

FLY HIGH, FAIRIES!

- Kyosuke Asatte, brainfarter with google translate and a dream

oh also you guys gotta try Sakura Wars sometime, code fairy is totally just borrowing from Sakura Wars"

Hichikarah's note:
Fellow Sakura Wars fan sighted. Assuming he is not talking about that awful reboot; my respect has been earned. So far this has been one of the best MTLs I've seen.

No More Cheese Dip's note:
I like this guy's font variety.

Kochikame: Tokyo Beat-Cops chapter 7: "I'm a Murderer"

The final of the numbered chapters in this volume. This also marks our first appearance of Nakagawa since being elevated to the status of main cast member. It's nice seeing the two back together having a little misadventure. He pairs with Ryotsu a lot better than Totsuka or Terai. Totsuka is too similar to Ryotsu and Terai reels Ryotsu back more than he has regular interactions with him. I think Akimoto didn't realize he had the code cracked out of the gate.

Sound effects here were replaced, though with a less time consuming manner we'll probably use for this series going forward. Think of it as a happy medium between the full high effort replacements and the lack there of that we've had for the last few chapters. One more to go and volume 1 will be complete. I'm impressed at the pace we've been at with this series. Though those of you in our Discord know just why we're taking a break from it for a couple of months.

This is the second chapter to not make it one of the best of volumes.

Special thanks to Project Vinland for providing us the raws for this series.

Mobile Suit Gundam École du Ciel (manga) volume 1

The volume release for Ecole du Ciel is here after 10 months of us beginning this project. Feels a little wrong, but whatever. A lot has happened since then. Hichi's accident, the launching our Patreon, among other things. In undoing the sins of Tokyo-Pop Hichi has declared that the original version of volume 1 was roughly 60% accurate. She also observed that the people who worked on it clearly had no knowledge of Universal Century lore and it showed. I translated the bonus content myself, due to Hichi's accident and not wanting to create extra work for her. So my own editing and translation skills may be a bit jarring or notably worse.

Asuna's journey starts with humble beginnings. I hope you're excited to see where it goes from here. The first arc of this manga encompasses twenty-two chapters, so we're nearly a quarter of the way there.

No reading order for this post, since this is just a volume of the manga. Though you can find the reading list on the chapter release pages. Stay tuned for a bonus post relating to this release at some point in the near future.

Special thanks to GIT_LAB and Trafalgarlog for supplying us the ebook scans to compliment our existing scans.

The year is Universal Century 0085, 5 years have passed since the end of the most devastating war mankind has ever seen. Asuna Elmarit is a Zeon exchange student at the Earth Federation's pilot school in Montreal. Despite showing poor skills as a mobile suit pilot, her future and her mother's future rests on how well she does in school. Asuna soon finds herself caught in between her school work and the dark machinations at play as the Universal Century once again slowly moves on the path to yet another war, with the school in danger of being swallowed up by it.

Moonlight Mile Mission 20: "Paparazzi Spirits: The Latter Volume"

The end of this story arc! Once again this story arc was keeping with the recurring theme of how we're following Gorou and Lostman through the POVs of other characters. Ivan and Robert were fun characters to follow, but this story went from fun to heavy as it progressed, which only makes you wonder what happens next.

Ohtagaki said in the foreword to volume 1 that he lost a lot of his color manuscripts and as a result, many color illustrations are no longer available, despite him wanting to include them. For this chapter he had 5 out of 8, meaning No More Cheese Dip stepped in did the missing three himself. We're very pleased with the work he has done and look we look forward to the next arc.

Real strange having a whole arc done in under a month when redoing volumes 1 and 2 were such an ordeal for No More Cheese Dip. Hopefully we can have this next arc done within a month too.

Kochikame: Tokyo Beat-Cops chapter 6: "Quick-Draw Ryo-San!?"

Most of this was done before Hichikarah's accident, so we were thankfully able to get this one out rather quickly.

No More Cheese Dip asked me to clarify that this chapter was originally printed in color. So as a result, this chapter is a pretty terrible looking greyscale because that's what was featured in the volume release. I hope we were able to make it look presentable, but if this looks worse than our other chapters you know why. Unless someone donates whatever ancient issue of shonen jump this chapter appeared in, we're just stuck with it like this. I'd also like to thank Project Vinland for giving us higher resolution scans than the ones we were using before. I hope the quality does improve from here on out as a result, even if the greyscale looks bad.

This chapter is the namesake chapter for this volume and it also features some returning characters we haven't seen in a while.

Mobile Suit Gundam École du Ciel (manga) chapter 5: "The Right Qualifications"

With this volume 1 is completed. Hichi actually had a life threatening accident recently and she miraculously walked away with no permanent injuries. Still work may be understandably slowed with her concussed and recovering. So we'll probably pad out our release schedule with volume 1. I can translate the bonus content their myself without Hichi, it can be an easy release since we have all the manga chapters for it done now that this one is complete.

No More Cheese Dip is working on Moonlight Mile chapter 20. I'll see about finishing that next Kochikame chapter at some point, since we only have two pages left to be completed before No More Cheese Dip can go in with his edits. Hichi is working on the novel's next chapter while recovering. She's trying to get it done on schedule, whether or not she can remains to be seen, but wish her luck in this endeavor. We insist she rests but that Japanese work ethic won't let her.

There's ongoing joke in our server about a Youtuber writing this series off as cute thanks to Mikimoto's art, and I can only just imagine how he would feel reading this chapter. This is how you know we're approaching the Gryps era in the timeline, because the suffering is real.

reading order for this series is

Novel chapter 2

Manga chapter 2

Manga chapter 3

Novel chapter 3

Moonlight Mile Mission 19: "Paparazzi Spirits: The Second Volume"

Happy Easter everyone!

Just two weeks later it is here. This chapter was the first completed with No More Cheese Dip's new setup and it looks pretty good. A few of the redraws here must have been time consuming. See the intensity gradually dialed up, a surprise return and a new look at the future of space development. A lot happens in this chapter and like the last chapter, we're in the POV of Robert and Alan, two paparazzi who are chasing after Lostman in the name of a huge scoop. We're less than a month away from the series resuming! Maybe we'll catch up at some point, but at this point it looks like more like the manga may end before then. Who's to say? I hope you'll enjoy this chapter.

Kochikame: Tokyo Beat-Cops chapter 5: "Tea at the Koban"

One thing I think is fun about reading Kochikame is the lore that keeps getting introduced gradually. We learned where Ryotsu was born in the previous chapter and then we learn a little more about a character who previously had less known about them. I think it's fun personally, especially when you consider how long this series is. We see Totsuka again in this chapter. According to Hichikarah, Totsuka was a major recurring character early on, but gradually got phased out as the cast got bigger. The big reason being his only two notable traits as a character were that he was a lot like Ryotsu and an enabler for him, the other being that he is a cop who looks like a cartoonish stereotype of a Yakuza thug.

I also want to mention that makes 6 consecutive chapters where Ryotsu doing police work is integral to the plot. I'm going to start keeping track of all this just to see if that "no actual police work gets done and they don't justify it" claim on all the English synopsis is right. It looks to me more like people just don't understand how different the police in Japan are to our western perception of them. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this chapter.

Moonlight Mile Complete(r) Edition volume 1: The End of the Earth

We're finally publishing volume 1 of Moonlight Mile here. What took so long? Simple... we used 15+ year old tankoban scans that were of ...
